Cured of Anxiety

God’s Word set Blake Cheek free from anxiety

Crippling anxiety once caused Blake loss of appetite and nocturnal panic attacks and led him behave in controlling, risky, and “manic” ways.

At some point, Blake accepted Jesus as his savior. He then met his future wife. She tended to sing a song, the lyrics of which were based on the Bible verses Philippians 4:6-7, which say not to be anxious about anything.

Blake latched onto those verses and began saying them to himself whenever worrisome and stressful situations arose. Secondly, he proceeded to recount various blessings and to thank God for them. Thirdly, he would entreat God for help with the given situation. Lastly, Blake applied the following verse of Philippians 4:8 and meditated on good and wonderful things.

Blake repeated this Biblical formula multiple times until he finally received the desired result: his anxiety issue was completely cured! At the time of his testimony, he recounts, “I no longer would have anxiety in situations that I would in the past. It was completely gone, and it was all through applying the Word of God in prayer… God completely took my anxiety away. His Word literally healed my brain.”

The Holy Ghost convicted David Diga Hernandez to let go of his anxiety

David’s struggle with anxiety started at age seven. This problem followed him into adulthood, morphing into paranoia and triggerless panic attacks that would happen during ordinary life events, such as going out with his wife, attending church, or hanging out with friends. All these anxiety issues began to take a toll on his relationships.

Then, David had to fly to North Carolina for his ministerial work as an evangelist. En route to the airport, David and two friends witnessed a car accident occur right in front of them on the freeway. Afterward, David felt “swallowed by anxiety.” When he awakened the next day in his hotel bed, overwhelmed with emptiness and fear, he asked the Holy Spirit to help him.

And the Holy Spirit answered. He brought up memories of fearful experiences David had when he was little, such as when he was tormented by demonic faces and voices at bedtime and when a fear of dying ruined his fun when attending theme parks with his family. The Holy Ghost concluded this walk down memory lane by asking, “Why don’t you believe that I love you and that I plan to do good things in your life?”

David felt a breaking feeling inside, and he began to weep, realizing he had been under a lie that (basically) God was out to get him. Though his freedom from anxiety was not granted instantly, he considers this experience to be an important breakthrough moment.

Chad Bailey found healing from anxiety and panic attacks through God’s Word

Previously, Chad had dismissed the seriousness of anxiety… before he experienced it himself. His anxiety issue manifested as panic attacks, and he would have these while shopping, preaching, and performing music. He even started panicking when he was saying his wedding vows. For about half of 2020, he needed to “have somebody with him” due to an irrational fear of something bad happening.

Chad’s doctor prescribed anti-anxiety medication. However, Chad eschewed the psych med in favor of relying on God. When the torment eventually caused suicidal feelings and temptation for former addictions, Chad went to the internet to find anxiety testimonies. He find Aaron Kim’s testimony of overcoming multiple mental health issues, including anxiety and panic disorder (featured here).

Chad used the Bible verses Aaron had recommended to fight his condition, reciting these whenever his symptoms flared. He even wrote them on his wrist as a memento.

About a month in of doing this, Chad started coming down with a panic attack. Using the verses, he prayed fervently against his condition. He “rebuked the Devil…told the Devil to get out of [his] house, get out of [his] marriage, get out of [his] life in the name of Jesus.”

He now recounts, “I just felt this crazy sense of peace in my mind… All of a sudden it was just like all the noise in my head just stopped. And the anxiety went away, and all that was left in my body was a trembling… I was just like blown away that God healed me.”

God answered Sarah’s prayer and took away her anxiety

When she was in her mid-teens, Sarah began to date her now-husband Jim. She lived a worldly lifestyle, drinking and having sex with her boyfriend.

Jim’s parents were Christians, and Sarah was impressed by their close relationship. Desiring such a relationship herself and seeing Christianity as a path to one, she decided to become a Christian herself.

With attending church and becoming acquainted with Scripture, Sarah became convicted of having sex with her boyfriend. They agreed to abstain until marriage, later broke up, and then reconciled.

In college, Sarah was active in – and good at – lacrosse and soccer. She even became captain of her lacrosse team. However, the pressure of performance got to her, and she developed intense anxiety which left her unable to eat or get a full night’s sleep.

Sarah would cry and beg God to take the anxiety away. She also phoned Jim at night, sometimes multiple times, asking him to pray for her. Eventually, he stopped taking her calls, telling her, “Sarah, I can’t pray for you. I can’t be your God.”

Sarah realized she “needed to pray for [herself] and truly pray.” Then, she heard a sermon on “doubting our prayers,” and she recognized that she had this problem.

When she returned to her dorm room, she begged God in desperation to “please take this anxiety away,” adding that she “just can’t deal with it anymore.” She then felt “this overwhelming peace,” which felt strange to her as she wasn’t used to it. At the time of her testimony, she said, “Now I live my life in freedom… I’m just so thankful that He took [the anxiety] away from me and that He showed me that my prayers are important. And He hears my cries. And He was with me the whole time.”
