Quitting Smoking the Easier Way — No Books, Patches, Or Meds!
Marvella turned over her cigarette to God, and He cured her of smoking
Marvella smoked hoping to lose weight but instead ended up addicted. Consuming “three and half to four packs of cigarettes a day,” she developed health problems, including breathing trouble, coughing, chest pain, and breathlessness when walking. She tried multiple methods to stop smoking but nothing brought results.
Though she was a life-long church goer, Marvella “had never met the God of the Bible.” On one bad day, she cried out to God to save her if she wasn’t already. After that, her life began to change. She received prayer at a church, and a presence came upon her, startling her. In her confusion, she attempted to flee, but it held her in place for some time. Upon being released, she knelt, crying as she heard singing that went “Let us break bread together on our knees.”
She took communion, then went to leave, feeling “high in the spirit” and still confused about what happened. Dazed by the bright light outside, she received help from some church ladies to get to her car. When she asked what had happened, they explained she “had been filled with the Holy Ghost.”
While she drove home, she worshiped, and all of a sudden, she began speaking in tongues. Upon getting in her house, she desired to smoke. She took a cigarette and started to light it. Then, someone said to her, “If you give it to me, I’ll take it.” She looked around but there was nobody there. The voice repeated the message again. Her attention went to the cigarette she was holding, and she said, “Here.”
Marvella testified, “And from that day to this day, I have not smoked another cigarette… glory to God.” All her former efforts and resolutions to stop had ended in failure, until God intervened and delivered her.
Deanne leaned on God to quit smoking, and He came through for her
Deanne was a smoker for approximately 15 years. At some point, she was smoking over twenty cigarettes every day. Perceiving she could not kick the addiction by herself, she prayed to God for help.
Deanne took a vacation in Portugal. She had just one cigarette left, and her husband-to-be talked to her on the phone, urging her to quit the habit. She responded that she didn’t “know how [she was] going to do this; [she’s] just trusting God in this.” Deanne then felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. She wanted to have one more puff of her cigarette, but it had gone out.
Later, before going to sleep, she repented to God of harming her body with smoking and asked Him to help her quit, confessing she could not do it with her own power. She also repented of leaning on smoking to help her with anxiety and life stressors. God responded with Proverbs 3:5-6.
Upon awakening in the morning, Deanne “felt completely different.” Her senses were restored – her ability to taste and smell normally. Though she normally had a cigarette “first thing in the morning, now she “had absolutely no urge to light up a cigarette.” She asked God to “make [her] physically ill” if she ever thought of smoking again. A couple of months later, she did try a cigarette again and got sick! At the time of her testimony, she affirmed she has not “touched a cigarette since” nor had any nicotine-containing product in five years.
Lavina was able to quit smoking with God’s help
Lavinia started smoking cigarettes at age twelve, but her addiction really took off at age fifteen. This addiction lasted at total of twenty-one years. She consumed close to a pack of cigarettes every day.
Her health began to be affected, and she began using a wedge-shaped pillow to help with her breathing during the night. She would experience “the hardest time ever trying to go to sleep.” She felt compelled to smoke in the morning, at mealtimes, and before bed.
At one point, she received prayer from her pastor at church, specifically targeting the smoking addiction. Then, “a little voice in [her] ear told [her], ‘You’re delivered.’” When she returned home, she gathered up her cigarettes, even the butts, and tossed them into a dumpster. At the time of her testimony, she testified to having been cigarette free for almost five months.
